Article 3/3/08 My Evolution As A Nurse/Healer
I became a nurse in 1972, but it was by no means the beginnings for me to help and care for people. I’ve done that for as long as i can remember. I have an intense love for people, and it hurts me to see someone in pain, whether it be physical or emotional. I’ve studied it, and am able to tell most of the time what is going on in their heads. I know when they are hiding their pain.
When Lamaze Childbirth became popular in the 70’s, I was one of the first instructors in my area. I believed in the bonding of the family at birth. Also, I believed that pain and humiliation in childbirth, could affect the relationship with the child. To really check my theory, I went to work in a high risk labor and delivery unit at the charity hospital. The patients were ignorant as to what was happening to their bodies, and were scared. The majority of the staff ignored their screams. I found if I taught them the breathing, and rubbed their bellies, they did great. I became their cheerleader. What i saw as an end result was happy mothers, who began bonding on the delivery tables.
From the delivery room, I went into ICU. Touch and reassurance continued to be a huge part of my care.
In the 80’s I began to hear about Therapeutic Touch. There was a book written by nurses, and I immediately bought it. I practiced the techniques, and got educational credit for it. This was huge, I knew this could work. But as much as I wanted it, it was just to hard for me. I’m just a simple country girl, and I need things to just flow.
In 1991 I went to New Mexico and opened a home care agency. One of the home care aides called me one night asking me to look at her son. He had a severe headache, and was listless. I don’t know what made me do it, but I put one finger in the middle of his forehead, and kept it there about 5 minutes. As I was talking with the mother, I removed my hand. Then my husband told me to look at the son (Eli), and he was jumping up and down in my chair. He asked me if I had something to eat. My mind was racing, what just happened?
Now I was on fire to learn how to do this STUFF. I studied Hannah Krueger from Boulder, CO. Everything I ever used worked, she was an amazing woman. She has specific techniques for different illnesses. But if there was something new, or if the client just had chronic pain, my intuition was used. Keep it simple and just put my hands on the pain. Over the next few years I relieved alot of pain, and briefly I will tell you a few that stand out in my mind. An 80 year old man fell off a wagon 50 years before, resulting in shoulder pain which never went away. After one treatment the pain was completely gone and never returned. A Navajo woman in her 70’s needed a knee replacement, but IHS would not pay for it. Her knee was huge. After multiple sessions the pain was gone permanently, and the knee was half the size. Another woman who had a long drawn out struggle to die, told the aide she couldn’t go because her soul was trapped. I ran energy from the head to the tailbone. Afterwards, she was peaceful and died on the second day.
In 2001 I saw an advertisement for a Quantum Touch workshop in California. I went and found that I was doing Quantum Touch all along, simple, easy and very effective. My intuition was right.
Since that time I became a practitioner, and an instructor. In ICU, I used it on head injuries, because it decreases swelling. I noticed that their judgment was better when they woke up, and they wake up! In patients who are confused, and combative, it can quiet them, and even get rid of the confusion. This can safe nurses countless steps, and precious time. It might prevent a fall, and a possible lawsuit. Last is the ability to keep the nurses at work. Twice as a supervisor I worked on nurses going home sick. One had a migraine headache, and the other with abdominal pain from diverticulitis. Both stayed and were pain free.
I know in the near future we will see medicine accepting and using energy work in the hospitals. Over one hundred already do. Nurses can get education credits for Quantum Touch, as I have provided them for the last 2 years to the U.S.
I can’t imagine my life without quantum touch, I use it all the time on friends and family. Just to be able to make your family comfortable is worth it, they have no or little pain after surgery! They have no toothaches, no pain from muscles, or bone. That alone , my friend is worth it.
